“To buy a yacht abroad, or a great adventure for a small company” 
It all started with the fact that I sold my yacht, which I loved and considered it almost ideal for use in local races and short journeys. The reason for this step was that I dreamed of buying the yacht that would allow me to travel across countries and seas. Agree that Ukraine and its water – yacht infrastructure, to put it mildly, are limited. Not to mention the legal field. The yachtsman is said to have two dreams. The first is to sell the yacht. The second is to buy the one that is forever.
To buy a sailing yacht or motor, I have no question. I have long been “sick” windy disease. In the sense of sailing. Yes, and travel on the present, you can only sail, which frees from fuel dependence. Sailing yachts are built taking into account storm conditions. She must have a self-correcting quality. Ie from any position, even turning 180 degrees, must complete the next 180 degrees before straightening. This is one of the main qualities that sailors call seaworthiness.
And so, I sold the boat in the spring and spent all summer and autumn at the computer. Of course, I had restrictions on the price and size of the yacht. I set myself the task of finding a yacht at least ten meters long, three meters wide, with a steering wheel and sails of at least fifty meters square. For the price, it had to fit into the budget of fifteen thousand euros. The first attempts of my research of the market showed that at such prices in these sizes one can only find a yacht of the seventies. In Turkey, Croatia, Greece, I did not find anything decent. There was an attempt to buy a yacht at 38 feet in Fenik (Turkey), but with my careful inspection, I realized that the yacht required serious repairs.
So my eyes fell on the Northern market for used yachts. In Sweden, I found the wonderful yacht “Bestrem 31” of 1976, the state is excellent. But for the time being, I made out a visa … The owner refused to accept prepayment by bank transfer. One of the sad features of communication with the “burzhuinsky” countries. The Swedes attitude to the Slavic countries, to put it mildly, cautious. 
How I researched the market. 
Almost all Internet search engines have a search filter. In size and price. The cheapest prices for yachts in America. (I doubt it now and I have reason for this) But the American market is a separate big topic. Many questions with delivery, visa. Interesting places of shopping and cruises in Guatemala, Panama, Honduras. There you can buy in the off season is not expensive. (Now, for example, I have a Pearson 36 offer for $ 15,000)
In second place in terms of availability is sweet, old England. But here to find a yacht in good condition at a budget price is very hard. The British sell the yacht is usually very “not clean” and in a state of not very pleasant. I am talking about budget yachts. 
 In Sweden, you will be pleasantly surprised by the condition of the yacht, but there is a clear threshold for the size and price of the yacht. Up to nine meters of the seventies, you can find a yacht up to 10 – 12 thousand euros. And, of course, you can not hope to buy a famous brand. At best, popular, but not elite. For example, you can buy “Albin Vega” within ten thousand euros. Very popular brand. But the size of the yacht did not fit into the presentation of my dreams. Its dimensions are 8.25 long and 2.45 width.
Gender – year searches still gave results. I “wandered” into my favorite Holland and unexpectedly “discovered” an interesting market for used yachts. There are many and very many. Attracted by the fact that the Netherlands has a very developed water infrastructure. Through the canals and lakes, it is “ahead of the rest!” 
My gaze focused on the unknown brand Vintur-30. Made of epoxy resin. A little outwardly resembles a beloved in Ukraine – “Carter-30” 
Components attracted. New sails. Teak deck Electric winch windlass anchors. New cleat winches from a reputable manufacturer. But that is not all! There was a completely new Vetus diesel with a new shaft and propeller! Inside, the interior is updated, LED lighting. And a lot of interesting stuff to boot. And all this for 9,500 euros.
But there was one, as it seemed to me a disadvantage. The yacht had a tiller. And I dreamed of the steering wheel and the central cockpit. She also had some hard to fix things. Well, so what! Everyone knows that if a dream is strong – it comes true. 
And here I got into my review yacht 71g. Release. With a strange brand name – “karate 33 AK”

Here was all that I dreamed of. Heavy, five and a half tons. With wine cups, long bow and stern overhangs. New sails, new sprayhud. Central cockpit, aft cabin. Deep draft spoke of good seaworthiness.
Among the shortcomings – an old diesel, which, incidentally, is absolutely working. And low habitability. In the presence of seven beds, in fact, in the yacht can travel four – five. A comfortable three. It suited me. The yacht was estimated at 16,000 euros. I received a discount in the process of bargaining and in addition five bags of sails. 
In addition, the yacht is painted with fresh paint, a new mast, a new twist of the staysail has been installed. In winter, yachts are usually cheaper. However, you have to spend some of the money from discounts on parking yachts. 

Registration of sale.

In Holland, as indeed, most of the Nordic countries, yachts up to 15 meters are not registered in the register. Reissuing takes less than an hour if you buy a yacht through a broker. Sign the sales contract and your yacht. But! T “That’s where the movie begins.” We then, people from Slavic – Soviet countries need

Supplement. If you decide to leave the yacht in Holland, you only need a bill of cel. It can be printed from a computer (there are plenty of sample books in the internet) and it is signed by two parties. I now practice on the form of the marina in which I buy a yacht and assure the notary, just in case)

Here, my broker took her hands on her head and said that “she would never sell the yacht to Russians again”. To my remark that I am from Ukraine, she waved her hand in the hearts and said that there was no difference! But the prepayment was paid by me to the bank and the “car” of the sale was still running. Broker made a request to the register. Help cost 55 euros. She took the document to the notary. Another 150 euros. All this money had to be paid to me, as the information was boring to me. 
By spring, I received the documents and the yacht, which stood on keelblocks and waited for its new owner. 
I had a school level of English (Below). And a great experience in the game of “window dressing”, where you need words to show gestures. Of course, you need to learn the language. Since the journey is not only communication with the sea and the yacht. In marines and ports you will not only stand and prepare for the next crossing, but also communicate with neighbors in the parking lot. And this communication is valuable and no less important than buying a yacht.
I will never forget the incident that happened to me in the port of Bangkok. I flew on about. Phuket to participate in the sailing yacht haul. I did not know the language at all. I had a one-way ticket and therefore I was refused a visa upon arrival at Bangkok. I said “official” – “Ay, know visa!” Ay go to Phuket “This ended my knowledge of the language. I wanted to say that I do not have a visa and I am in transit. But they did not understand me. Since “know” means – to know. Ie they heard understood as – “I know the visa.” Almost a day I spent in the port. My plane flew away without me and I miraculously sucked the difficulties that cost one correct phrase in English. 
Before buying a yacht, I learned the language, not only during the day, but at night. I woke up and took a tutorial. Strangely enough, memorizing difficult words was especially easy at night. 
Old yachts.
The biggest. What buyers are afraid of is osmosis (blister). The phenomenon of corrosion of plastic. The separation of the structure of plastic, with the penetration of water into the pores of the structure. I carefully studied this question and the more I got into the essence, the less I was afraid of this terrible word, “osmosis”. 
Yes, this phenomenon visits almost all yachts over thirty in one way or another. But there are anti-osmosis technologies that allow you to forget about osmosis as a minimum of ten or more years. It is laborious work, but, nevertheless, it is effective. 

Yes, there are yachts that are not subject to treatment. But they are always visible even to a non professional.
I would pay attention, first of all, to the shaping of the deck to the hull of the yacht. On the mast and deck, which is usually made by sandwich technology. On keel bolts and leaks decks and deadwood. On the cable and electrical support. And, of course, diesel. Close attention to him. Need to look at the smoke. What color is it? Gray, dark. Does it disappear after warming up? Does the fug not appear during the fingering? Does oil take? Ask questions. As a rule, the seller answers them honestly. Yes. He may not finish it. But if you asked him, he will answer without concealment. So they are Dutch. The broker is responsible for the correctness of the information that you provide. So ask for answers to your questions. Make out everything in the contract, and if something will not work from the declared worker, you can safely make a complaint to the broker.
And so, you are the owner of the yacht. 
Do not forget, you need insurance. CASCO is better, but at least “from causing damage to third parties” The Dutch insurance companies, as soon as they learned that the yacht was going to Ukraine, refused insurance. But if you say that the yacht will be located on the territory of Holland, you will have a different conversation and the yacht will be insured at prices much lower than the insurance offered by Ukrainian or Russian companies. But hardly anyone will ask you for insurance. And only if you store the yacht in the Dutch marina in the winter, the yacht without insurance will not be stored.
(The article was written four years ago and now I think differently. Casco is not needed at all. Expensive and inefficient. Insurance is not asked here and I only had it for one year. If you are sure that you don’t ram a neighbor’s yacht with a value …., then insurance not necessary. Otherwise, pay 100 euros per year for a passport.) 
You are the owner and the captain in one person. You need to decide on the philosophy of using the yacht. Tolley it will be a dacha in Holland. And you can travel along the canals and out to the North Sea. Or it will be a yacht for extra long journeys. And you can go to neighboring countries and cross the seas and oceans. If you bought a yacht with an unlimited navigation area, you have unlimited use. 

Consider several options. 

1. Floating cottage.


You can keep the yacht in no matter how pleasant the quiet, calm marina of Holland. And make trips, travel through the canals and lakes. If you are limited in time to vacation. Have two weeks, this option is most suitable for you. Fishing and visiting cute, quiet towns, walking along the embankments, eating oysters and absorbing beer. This is the suburban use of the yacht. But here a good alternative would be to buy a motor yacht or motosailor. He combines the qualities of a sailing and motor yacht. 

2. Yacht for travel.



If you have the opportunity to stay on the yacht for a month or more and you are passionate about traveling around the countries, you can buy a yacht for traveling. You need a yacht with a strong hull, good diesel and sufficient habitability. Pay attention to a good spars, there should be a staysail twist, spray hood, anchor winch (windlass). 
You will be able to move from port to port in the coastal part of the seas. Cross the borders of the states, issuing for this the relevant documents from the emigration service. In marinas, you will be charged for parking. In Holland, this is basically 10 -20 euros for a 10m yacht. As a rule, you will get the service. Water in the hose at the yacht, power supply. In the marina there are always shower, toilet, laundry. Wi – Fi is always available and is almost always included in the parking fee.
Traveling at sea will be relatively safe for you in favorable weather conditions. Since you can always get the weather forecast and wait out the bad weather in the marina. Usually transitions between marines within daylight hours and night transitions do not suggest. 

3. Expeditionary yacht.

Such a yacht for experienced yachtsmen. I would not dare to give advice in buying a yacht in this section. Since those who buy expedition yachts know what they need. And the choice here is not very simple and purely individual. As a rule, these are yachts with seaworthy contours, a strong hull and a strong spar. They are autonomous, reliable and habitable within the minimum of the team for which they are designed. These yachts are capable of storming and overcoming hundreds of miles without entering the port. You can see them in any marina. Their distinctive features will be the presence of a wind generator or solar panel, active radar, a well-fixed mast and the presence of a storm of ropes on the deck. The contours of these yachts differ from the so-called “charter”

And so, you understand that choosing a boat, you choose a way of life! The image that you are required to check and test before making a purchase decision. 
Here I would recommend to be like charter yachts. Participate in practical sea trips. Longer in time to live on a yacht, that would apply the yacht life to yourself. 
Not always what you imagined looking at a computer monitor coincides with reality. A yacht is a mono emotion. A yacht is a permanent engineering presence.

But there will be sunrises, which you will not see in the city. There will be those emotions for which you want to scream with delight, arms outstretched and looking into the heavens. 
But it is very individual. Therefore, experience your desire under a real sail in a real sea. 

I BUY A YACHT! (2009) 

Finally I am flying. The plane carries me to my dream, to the country of fairy tales and water. I’m flying to Holland. There, near the cozy and lovely city of Amsterdam, is my yacht. This winter, I bought it, and spent the rest of winter in road trouble and waiting for a meeting.

The plane flew over Germany and hit the storm. We were thrown to the sides as from shells exploding. I am sure everyone who was in the cabin prayed. And maybe not only those who were in the cabin. And in the cockpit, I think the same. I sat by the porthole and looked at the wing. I do not understand why it did not fall off from that shaking? 

Landed in Dortmunt. I have a cargo of almost fifty kilo in backpacks and a huge bag. After the plane I have to get on the train and make three transfers. So only representatives of the Slavic countries can drive. 

And here is a meeting with my beauty. Comrade met me in the car and threw in the marina. There you need to go on foot with a kilometer. With my cargo, I would die like a German at Stalingrad.

What I saw horrified me. My keelblock yacht is worth it, lonely, cold and somehow small and old. In winter, when I bought it, it was some other … 

Then I realized what was the matter. When I arrived, there was a real storm. The wind whistles in the guys standing in the row of the yacht make uterine sounds. Advertising flags clapped like firecrackers under the Christmas tree. The air temperature is a little more than ten degrees. And it is in the middle of June! I sent warm things by sending and freezing like a bobby in a booth. A drizzling rain completed the picture of sadness and longing. 
In the yacht, a light glove box reminded me that I have to work from morning to evening for a month, which would somehow bring the boat in order.
In general, my mood sought to drop below the waterline and hardly ever rise above. And then I remembered that I had taken medicine for all the troubles with me. When I was packing my backpacks, I wondered if I should take a bottle of vodka with me? But I sent this thought as a very difficult one. In the literal sense of the word. Putting the bottle on the scales, I realized that this is impossible. But then, I found a flask, presented to me when someone else. Its capacity was three hundred grams, and a compromise was found.
And here I am sitting in the cabin of the yacht, the wind howls, cold and damp. Brewed tea, ate Dutch cheese. Five minutes later I scanned my mood. What a psychophysiologically positive thing is this vodka! Undoubtedly, my mood seemed above the waterline and steadily rose to the deck. I had a small glass with a capacity of ten grams and it brought more and more positive with each rollover. 
Well, what you need to glue the skeg! And the autopilot is not a problem to install. Sonar buy in the store and install. Bebishtag and backstay!? Nonsense! Another glass and a solar battery I will install. Where can one buy? It doesn’t matter, everything is formed and materialized.
This positive fluid lasted for three days. And then I got involved in the work. The rise in five. Prayer, coffee and work. I even began to like my existence. There’s nothing to talk to – I’m talking to myself. The yacht began to look exactly the one I dreamed of. 
Until the luggage with my tools came, I varnished the wooden parts of the cockpit. Set the autopilot. Oskuril skeg and flap keel. Prepared them for pasting fiberglass. I bought a depth gauge. Unexpectedly, I began to notice that I was doing this all with a great buzz for the soul and a little for the body.
My yacht is thirty nine years old. The former owner before selling bought new sails. Spin the sail, painted the side. He also installed the “Webasto” heater. But it does not work from something. From this I feel cold at night and for some reason I remember my coastal dog Chapa in winter in a leaky booth. I’ll come home, be sure to update the booth. Meteorologists promise warming in a week. The cyclone cannot be ravaged on planet Earth the whole month! There is also the Law of Heaven! 
I look at the open water of the bay and think about the fact that the Lord does not bring in such a storm on the Sea. Today came the yacht with a broken mast. The Dutch are funny, as if it is a thrill to break the masts. They are all insured, you can laugh.

3. Products. But nothing to talk about. We eat at home and the budget is about the same. Out of savings (as it was tight), I lived on 5 euros per day. But if you live smartly with wine and cheese – 10 euros. 
Every year you will spend money on repairs. On average, 300-500 euros. 
Well, the main costs. Not yet planned. But it is individual. And that 1500 – 2000 euros per year. It’s minimum. Maximum is not limited. Ie if every month you can allocate 150-200 euros from your budget, you can afford a yacht, for example in Holland. 

How much time you can stay the most. Visas

Schengen visas. Not more than three months in half a year. But if you connect two periods of half a year, therefore you can be 6 months. Read more on the forum Vinsky. Subject “90 days in Schengen” A visa will be given to you immediately no more than three months (If you do not have a Schengen history) Then 6 months. Now I get a multi for two years. The basis may be your contract for the parking of the yacht, documents of ownership of the yacht and we still take the invitation from the marina. Also, you can invite friends on the basis of the ship’s role.
